    Clubs & Activities

There are many different clubs and activities offered to Spruce Avenue students. These groups meet during lunch and after school throughout the school year. There is no cost to joining these clubs and there are several benefits to being a member. The advantages to joining a student club range from greater attachment to the school and community, ability to go on once in a lifetime field trips, finding great and lifelong friends, and enriched curriculum studies.

Welcome to Spruce Avenue School! Home of the Spartans.

At Spruce Avenue, we offer a multitude of programs to support different types of learners which include: Literacy, Opportunity, Behaviour Learning Assistance, and Knowledge and Employability.  Students in our special needs programs are integrated into regular classes as much as possible so as to stretch their capabilities.

Spruce Avenue School is a member of the City Centre Education Project (CCEP) group of schools which serve the Inner City children of Edmonton. We work in close partnership with agencies that provide an extra layer of both emotional and academic support to our students and their families. These agencies, many of whom are located in our building, include: The Family Center, Big Brothers and Sisters, the Aboriginal Youth & Family Well Being & Education Society and the Kiwanis Club. The quality of our work is greatly enhanced through our CCEP connections. These partnerships allow us to offer students a level of support that is truly exceptional.

Principal's Message

In Ancient Greece, Spartans were known for their rigorous self discipline, fierce courage, perseverance, and excellence. Through their commitment to academic excellence and citizenship, the students at Spruce Avenue School continue to demonstrate the same character traits of the Spartans long ago.

At Spruce Avenue school we believe that all students are capable of success. Our emphasis is on the whole child as that child works to continually improve in all areas. Our core belief is that success is brought about through hard work and dedication. Our students are provided with an excellent educational foundation and everyone - staff, students and parents - plays a crucial role in that educational experience. We are committed to constantly seeking ways to increase student learning and success. The staff at Spruce Avenue School realize that in order for students to achieve success,  they require different levels of support. We work collaboratively with students, parents, and partners to individualize academic and social programming so that our students will have what they need to reach their potential.

We look forward to educating your child for life, to open up their full potential, and to inspire each student as they pursue excellence for themselves.

Yours in Partnership,

Joanne Harle, M.Ed.
