Welcome to Spruce Avenue Junior High School! At Spruce Avenue we believe that with the right type and amount of support, all students can experience success. Our emphasis as a school is on the whole child and on continual improvement in all areas. Our core belief is that success is brought about through hard work and dedication. Students at our school are responsible for completing all work assigned in classes on a daily basis and are held accountable for completing this work. Our Spartan Support program offers tutorial sessions four days a week after school for students who are having difficulty with their work or in its completion and attendance is mandatory for those that need the extra support. Spruce Avenue staff realizes that in order to achieve their potential, all students require different levels of support. Our goal is to individualize programming and supports so that all of our students have what they need to reach this potential. We offer a multitude of programs to support different types of learners which include: Literacy, Opportunity, Behaviour Learning Assistance, Knowledge and Employability, as well as a regular classroom setting. Students in our special needs programs are integrated into regular classes as much as possible so as to stretch their capabilities. We have several agencies within our school which provide an extra layer of both emotional and academic support. These agencies work in close partnership with the school and include: The Family Center, Big Brothers and Sisters, the Aboriginal Youth & Family Well Being & Education Society and the Kiwanis Club. Through these partnerships we are able to offer students a level of support for our students that is second to none. Spruce Avenue School is a part of the CCEP group of schools which serve the Inner City children of Edmonton.

Spruce Avenue School provides students with an excellent educational foundation and everyone - staff, students and parents -plays a crucial role in that educational experience. At Spruce Avenue, we are committed to constantly seeking ways to increase student learning and success. We do this by focusing on developing and sustaining excellent teacher practices through the vehicle of high functioning collaborative teacher teams.

There are five main core areas to the curriculum. They are Language Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science and Social Studies.
